Assembly instructions for the Medium and Large Front Attachment
The Walkin’ Wheels® Front Wheel attachment gives mobility to pets with front leg weakness or weakness in all four legs. It is ideal for helping disabled pets get exercise, and for rehabilitation while they are healing. Like all Walkin’ Wheels products, the front wheel attachment is adjustable to provide the best possible fit for your pet . The Medium and Large Front Attachments fit the Rear Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair for pets weighing 30–150 lbs. and can be easily added or removed at any time.
This attachment is not compatible with the Walkin’ Wheels Mini or Small Wheelchair.
In the package:
The Front Wheel Attachment kits are easy to assemble and install into the rear wheelchair.
You will just need a Phillips Head Screwdriver if you will be using the Chin Bar.
IMPORTANT: The LEFT and RIGHT Struts and Casters (B) must match the LEFT and RIGHT legs (C).
If they are not installed correctly the wheelchair will be extremely wobbly. We refer to L and R as if you are behind the wheelchair.
Instructions:
Step 1: Attaching the legs (C) to the extenders (A)
The top of each leg is labeled with an L or an R. It is crucial that the legs are installed on the correct side. The extenders are not labeled L or R but the shoulder socket hex screws face outward. To attach the leg to the length extender follow the steps below:
Step 2: Side Extenders
Remove the existing side extenders from your Walkin’ Wheels Rear Wheelchair.
Step 3: Insert Strut and Caster Assembly into Legs
Step 4: Insert Completed Leg and Extender Assembly into Rear Wheelchair
Step 5: Adjust the Chin Bar
Note: Use of the Chin Bar is optional. The Chin Bar adds stability and rigidity to the front wheel attachment. It needs to approximately match the width of the back of the Walkin’ Wheels.
Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the two screws on the
Chin Bar and adjust it so that the width of the Chin Bar is approximately the same as the width of the back of the wheelchair.
Insert screws to secure in place.
The front chin bar attachment only has threads on one of the bars . You will notice that the other bar has large holes with no threading on the inside . The bar with no threading is the bar that the screw needs to feed through first.
Attach the extension piece (D) to the outside of the chin bar using the included screws and washers. Insert the Chin Bar into the openings at the front of the Left and Right Extenders using the thumbscrews.
The Chin Bar is held on by the two Chin Bar Screws (F). Put the Chin Bar Comfort Cover (G) on the Chin Bar. The Chin Bar is attached after your pet is in the wheelchair. Note: The chin bar is optional
Putting Your Pet into the Full Support Wheelchair
There are many ways to get your pet into the Full Supportive Wheelchair.
We suggest that you view the video below for some ideas:
Height
Set the height so that only the four toe pads of each paw are
touching the ground. Extenders need to be parallel to the ground.
Length
Your pet’s front leg should be centered between the two
shoulder socket screws on the extender and the rear leg
should be in line with the rear leg of the wheelchair.
Width
The width is determined by the widest part of your pet
(generally your pet’s chest). Allow at least an inch of space
between your pet and the wheelchair on both sides.
Leg Rings
The leg rings in the front generally need to be a bit lower
than in the rear, to accommodate your pet’s deeper chest.
The front leg rings should fall between 3-4” below the
bottom of the wheelchair frame when pushed on.
